Consciousness Layers

The Sense of Self

Ego Manifestation

Sense of self forms by filtering awareness through the lens of our ego, which identifies with our body through our five senses, and with time by replaying the past and rehearsing the future.

The Common Thread

Pure Awareness

Our mindful self only knows what we are, not what we have. It does not cling to things, experiences, or emotions. This is a state of pure awareness and equanimity, and a felt sense of oneness with every other being.

The Living World

Physical Body Manifestation

Our physical bodies are incredibly complex, well adapted ecosystems that let us experience the wondrous physical world through our senses. They are the core form of our existence as living beings.

Living in Awareness

The Sense of Self

Practicing Mindfulness

Paying attention to the breath, or sitting in meditation, or even doing simple tasks, without judging the thoughts that arise - this is how we spend a little more of each day awake instead of on autopilot.

The Common Thread

Less Attachment

As our practice deepens, we live with more appreciation for the present, less clinging to the past, and less worry for the future. We see others as extensions of ourselves, so we work to relieve their suffering just as we would our own.

The Living World

Living Fully

Walking this path, we notice how incredible it is that we're alive at all - in this body, in this moment, in this world. Each day brings a little more zest, curiosity, and engagement.
